While waiting for her turn, the player character Aya can be moved around to dodge enemy attacks. In battle, the game uses a pausable real-time combat system with an Active Time Bar (ATB) that sets the time that must be waited till the player can take their next action. Enemies materialize and attack players on the same screen that they move Aya around on, with no battle mode or screen being used. Upon the player walking over a "hot spot", there's a chance of a random encounter. Movement in the " world map" (which is a map of Manhattan) is limited to specific destinations. Parasite Eve is an action role-playing video game with survival horror elements. The first two games, Parasite Eve and Parasite Eve II, had shipped over 3 million copies worldwide by 2010. The original title was also followed by two video game sequels: Parasite Eve II in 1999 and The 3rd Birthday in 2010, and was re-released on the PlayStation Network in 2010. The video game adaptation was part of a resurgence of popularity in Japanese horror sparked by the original book, and was released alongside a film adaptation and two manga comics one based on the book, the other on the video game. Parasite Eve received positive reviews critics praised the graphics and gameplay, but found the overall game too linear and with little replay potential. As detailed at the Tokyo Game Show, The 3rd Birthday's Japanese release will include a product code which can be input into next Spring's Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy to obtain an Aya Brea outfit for that game's Lightning character.

A Tifa outfit would look great! (Although there wouldn't be much to tear.) The 3rd Birthday is giving something to the Final Fantasy series in return for the Lightning costume. If you want our personal opinion, we're hoping Square Enix went wild and put all the Final Fantasy heroine clothing in there. While it's known that the game will have additional costumes outside of this Lightning one, we're not sure if there will be any other crossover costumes like this. In Japan, Square Enix is having Aya's voice actress change the tone of her battle shouts and cries based off the costume. In addition to looking like Lightning, the character will also sound like her. In recent interviews, character designer Tetsuya Nomura said that once the clothes tear far enough, you'll be able to see Lightning's l'Cie marking.

This costume operates just like any other outfit, meaning it will tear up when Aya takes damage. Once you've obtained the costume (we're not sure how just yet), you'll be able to make Aya switch into it during your play sessions.
